A Counterclockwise Orange

I went down to the crossroad again last night. It’s not a crossroad anymore. “A Crossroad Orange” is now a Counterclockwise Orange. An almost-full moon was rising in the east. Vehicles were feeling their way around the circle. Two bicyclists, one of whom I knew, rode around it twice. They claimed they were looking for a way out.

Bypass road?

Left: Is the apparent bypass southwest of the circle supposed to be the bike path? It seems to correspond to the bypass in the design (above). How’s that going to work? Last I heard, there was supposed to be a request light somewhere. How’s that going to work?

It’ll work fine… just like they do on the mainland. The “Pedestrian Request Light”; see vid I posted on No Roundabout at Blinker page. Big city devices come to MV….

    • David W., cyclist extraordinaire, tells me that the request light was nixed. I hadn’t heard that, but at some point I stopped paying attention. If the thing works as well as the 4-way stop, I’ll be happy enough. If it recreates the situation of the old 2-way, when north-south traffic on Barnes had a helluva time getting into the intersection, I will not be happy at all.

O MY will they have little workshops to teach us how to drive around (and around and around) and also get out safely. ?? Will chek it out soon, cannot believe it is in “working order” already……just looked like total meaningless chaos when I drove thru a few days ago! Will there be grand opening with music and cake?

Thanks for keeping us informed – I intend to try it out tomorrow……

    • When I went through, work had long since stopped for the day and people were basically doing what they did at the 4-way stop. I’m told that when construction is going on and a police officer is directing traffic, it’s still a mess.

I have observed many places and many times that nothing will gum up traffic as quickly and thoroughly as a cop directing it!
