So around 4:15 this afternoon Travvy and I were waiting to cross State Road to go to the West Tisbury post office — waiting at the crosswalk, mind you — and a nice person in an older white Subaru Outback stopped to let us go.
As we stepped into the crosswalk, I turned to wave at the driver. The black sedan behind the Outback was pulling up on the grass between the road and the bike path/sidewalk. I swear, this person was trying to pass the stopped car.
Summer’s here, folks.
About Susanna J. Sturgis
Susanna edits for a living and writes to survive. Having been preoccupied with electoral politics since 2016, she is now getting back to writing -- and she's got plenty to write about. Her blog "The T-Shirt Chronicles," started at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, is a meandering memoir based on her out-of-control T-shirt collection. Her other blogs include "From the Seasonally Occupied Territories," about being a year-round resident of Martha's Vineyard, and "Write Through It," about writing, editing, and how to keep going.

man . . . I hate it when people do that. It is so dangerous. I hope you at least gave them a dirty look. (I’m voting NJ).

Every summer I keep a mental tally of the plates on cars that do stupid things, like almost run me down, cut me off, drive the length of Old County Rd with the turn signal on, etc. Some years NJ wins. Other years it’s NY. CT is always in the running. 2013 is still up for grabs.
