July License Plate Report

2015 july license plate

Hawaii showed up when July had barely started. The month could have ended there and it would have been all good. West Virginia came about two-thirds of the way through. Not a big haul, especially considering the number of cars on Vineyard roads, but a good one.

A few years ago, I didn’t spot any new plates after the end of July. I don’t believe that’s going to be true this year.

About Susanna J. Sturgis

Susanna edits for a living and writes to survive. Having been preoccupied with electoral politics since 2016, she is now getting back to writing -- and she's got plenty to write about. Her blog "The T-Shirt Chronicles," started at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, is a meandering memoir based on her out-of-control T-shirt collection. Her other blogs include "From the Seasonally Occupied Territories," about being a year-round resident of Martha's Vineyard, and "Write Through It," about writing, editing, and how to keep going.

  1. Impressive considering that we are only starting the month of August. Interesting to see who visits or not. Happy license plates hunting!

Have you ever kept track of how many you see from each state ?

    • No. Doing it for the New England states and the Mid-Atlantics would drive me crazy. I do sometimes think about keeping track of multiple sightings of the less common states. This year I’ve seen three different Tennessee plates, not including the one that was on Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn’s tour bus. This strikes me as unusual. Ditto when I see, say, two Alabamas within a week of each other. At the moment my record-keeping isn’t up to keeping serious track, but my brain does register unusual multiples.
