September License Plate Report

Around the end of July I start to resign myself: This could be it for the year. August brought nothing new. That practically confirmed it.

Then around the third week of September I spotted Mississippi, one of the top 5 hard-to-gets. Now anything is possible. Five more to go. Bring on October!

About Susanna J. Sturgis

Susanna edits for a living and writes to survive. Having been preoccupied with electoral politics since 2016, she is now getting back to writing -- and she's got plenty to write about. Her blog "The T-Shirt Chronicles," started at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, is a meandering memoir based on her out-of-control T-shirt collection. Her other blogs include "From the Seasonally Occupied Territories," about being a year-round resident of Martha's Vineyard, and "Write Through It," about writing, editing, and how to keep going.

  1. Hey there, Susanna –

Keep it going; you’re almost there! I know it’s only a matter of time. When I was last on the island, I spotted a Hawaii license plate…couldn’t quite figure that one out, but, there it was!

    Hope you’re well.

    Best,
    Kevin

    • Hiya! I’ve spotted at least two different Hawaii plates this year. It might have been three, but I was so excited to spot the first plate (I was leaving Vineyard Haven on State Road) that I didn’t register anything about the car it was attached to. Don Lyons, the guy who got me hooked on this game, and I used to puzzle about those Hawaii plate. Seriously — it’s hard enough to get from here to Woods Hole, but from Hawaii to the mainland?? Our best theory was that the Hawaii plates belong to military personnel who are stationed in New England but whose legal residence is Hawaii. One of these days I’ll snag the driver of one of these cars and ask.
